These cards are designed to be the simplest
method of hooking your PC to virtually any kind of control system. The
cards plug into a spare PCI slot of a PC and have their inputs and outputs
brought out to a 'D' type connector on the rear panel. There a three types
of card, one with 4 relay outputs and 4 opto coupled inputs, one with
8 input/outputs, and one with 16 input/outputs.
The
relay output part provides either 4, 8 or 16 Single Pole Single Throw
(SPST) relays. Each relay channel can be used to switch external devices
ON or OFF, maybe to simply swich lamps on or off, drive external high
power relays, activate alarms, or maybe wired across existing push switches
to remotely control machinery etc. etc.. Each relay channel is fitted
with an LED to help determine the relay state.
The input part provides either
4, 8 or 16 photo coupled digital input channels, which allow the input
signals to be completely isolated giving protection from power control
circuits and preventing ground loops. The inputs can be driven by applying
17 to 28Volts DC or can be set to work from an external volt free
contact e.g. unconnected push switch or another relay contact.
